At Discover Montana Outfitting, we hunt some of Montana’s most productive big game habitat from horseback and on foot, the way it was meant to be. Fair chase, big adventure.

Brow-tined bulls and cow elk are our quarry. This is not a “trophy hunt,” as the terrain is rugged and the odds are more in the elk’s favor. This is a real, honest, Western elk hunting experience. No high fence. No bait. No guaranteed kills. However, our excellent crew of guides has tricks up their sleeves and can deftly lead you down the right path.
Our fully guided trips include field transportation, infield care of harvested game, guide services, hot and hearty home-style camp meals, and warm, dry tents with cozy cots. Alcohol is not included. Game processing, taxidermy, and any shipping can be arranged by the outfitter at the client’s expense.
Our home base for the week is a comfortable camp, comprised of a mix of wall tents and tipi tents, all of which are fitted with wood stoves. Camp is located in the heart of high country elk habitat. Nestled in the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest, it is a beautiful 8-mile horseback ride into camp. Camp sits at 8,000 ft. on the edge of a strikingly beautiful mountain meadow. From camp, we hunt on horseback or on foot, primarily glassing the animals and then stalking within range. Our quality stock and tack make for as comfortable a riding experience as possible.
Hunts are booked out far in advance and are dependent on clients drawing tags through Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks licensing services. The elk hunt is $7,000 per hunter.
